The Art Behind
Our Woven Socks

Our woven socks blend digital design and textile tradition, beginning as crisp vector illustrations and transforming into intricate knitted masterpieces.

Your Experience, by Design

01

Design Creation

Our artists craft original designs using vector-based software like Adobe Illustrator. These files allow for perfect precision and scalability - ideal for translating into fabric.

02

Stitch Programming

The design is then transformed into a stitch file - a detailed blueprint that tells our knitting machines exactly how to weave each thread. This step involves breaking the art into tiny, pixel-like stitch blocks.

03

Knitting the Socks

Our high-tech knitting machines bring the design to life, weaving it directly into the fabric of the sock - not printed on top, but built into the very structure of the sock itself.

The Woven Advantage

Durability

Because the design is knitted into the sock, it won’t peel or fade like prints often do.

Comfort

Since the design is integral to the sock, there's no ink to stiffen the sock over time.

Texture & Depth

Stitched patterns give socks a tactile quality and richness that printing can't match.

Eco-Friendly Process

Weaving uses less water, less waste, and no chemical runoff from the ink printing.

Speaking in Stitches

The Initial Sketch

Our designs are made using vectors, which allow us to quickly create shapes and adjust colours and patterns.

Vectors aren’t bound by pixels and have smooth edges. We create designs this way as they are faster and allow us to show many options efficiently.

Pixel Perfect

The sewouts are bitmapped - where each stitch in the design is essentially assigned to a single pixel.

This is why woven socks are more nuanced than printed, as it takes a specialized designer to know size limitations and weaving processes.

Custom Woven Socks FAQs

Can I see my sewout before I order?

Of course! Before your order goes into production you can request to see the sewout. We can also show you a photo of your sock before production, depending on timelines.

How long will my woven socks last?

Woven socks have an average life span of 5-6 years depending on wear.

How do I best care for woven socks?

Woven socks are easy! Throw them in your wash with everything else. If you want to get real specific, washing in cold water and inside out is both environmentally friendly, but can also help preserve your socks.

I’m designing my own socks - how will I know if the design is feasible?

On our templates (linked) page you can find a short write up on sizing guidelines - but all designs are looked over by our in house sock specialists before we put it into production, so you will know exactly what to expect on your socks.

How small can the text be while still being legible?

When using our templates, our general rule is that 6x4 pixels is the smallest legible size - but our in house team will always look over your designs to make sure your sock comes out perfectly.
